11 February 2023 – Day 11

It is Day 11 Post-surgery. Zora had a great day – sitting outside in the sunshine for 15 minutes. About a 20 foot walk to view the street happenings.
Actually 2 short walks in the yard.

Yesterday was our first office checkup with the Vet to review Zora’s progress. Her Vet/Surgeon was very impressed at how well she is doing.

We are still mainly toe-tapping but when moving at a faster than a snails’s pace ( still with a harness and sling for support) there is toes on the ground – when she gets ready for bed at night, and I mean ” I am ready right now”, it is hard to catch her before she heads down the hall to her crate. That is when you can see she is putting some weight on the leg to “put herself” to bed. She’s really looking for her bedtime snack tho the obvious benefit is putting that foot down herself. Zora is a very upbeat dog with an iron determination. Her ” I can do it ” attitude will be our real challenge in the months ahead – keeping her at a slow pace for months to allow for complete healing.

She has been released to begin underwater treadmill therapy and will begin that soon. With rehab

stretches, short leashed yard walks we continue to move forward in the rehab.
Overall a hard and very good two week for all.

12/2023: Single rear leg, operation 1/29/23 to repair CCL knee injury. Plate and 8 rods added to rear leg. Zora is now a bionic Supergirl. She passed Level 3 Mantrailing (for scenting dogs) and Pet Therapy Dog testing. 3/2020: Updated w new Tripod, Zora adopted 1 week after amputation for traumatic injury. 7 months old. A 3-legged English Labrador, "Fox Red" color. # Sweetie Pie RIP osteosarcoma November 2018. Pie is a schoolgirl ! She is taking Odor Recognition and obedience classes. She will get evaluated as a registered pet therapy dog around April 2013 and then get a job as a READing Paws dog (listener) at local libraries and will also visit rehab or nursing homes. Miss Pie is quite the social butterfly. Victoriana "Pie", as in Sweetie Pie, retired from greyhound racing (June 2012) - due to breaking her leg in a race. Pie ran in over 100 races and won 1st & 2nd more than 20% of her races. The break was repaired, but neglect at the track allowed a severe infection to set in. Second Chance Greyhounds in Georgia, took her in and saved her life. I am the very greytful beneficiary of that awesome group. I had another greyhound with osteosarcoma, who could not be saved and this is my very small way of keeping Luna's memory alive.

  1. Wow that is a super duper update! It’s nice knowing she’s getting to do her favorite things, even in tiny increments.

Sure sounds like Zora’s great attitude is infectious. You sound pretty darn upbeat yourself. That’s the most valuable thing to have on your side when you’re going through something like this.

May the good recovery continue! Keep us posted.
